The million dollar question – sometimes quite literally!
It is absolutely essential to ascertain a reasonable idea of what your business is worth before making any decisions on selling. A really good example of why this is crucial is provided by the care home sector.
A small care home occupying what was originally a large residential property, may actually be worth significantly more if planning consent can be obtained for change of use back to residential, than if sold as a care home/going concern.
Businesses are valued in a number of different ways, most primarily based on a comparative basis (i.e. by reviewing the merits of the business for sale and looking at what similar businesses in similar locations achieved.)
